SOCIALLY DISTANCED WEDDINGS!

I think it’s safe to say that none of us expected what came of 2020. COVID-19 definitely affected our wedding industry and many others, but what it did not affect, was love. Many of our couples found ways to adapt to a temporary “new” normal - whether it be coming to a difficult decision of postponing a wedding, or deciding to lessen their desired guest count and keep the date that they had planned. Truth is, each and every one of our couples are rockstars for braving through such a crazy year and making “lemons” out of it in their own unique way.

We had the honor of being a part of some micro and socially distanced weddings. Although the guest counts were smaller, the cheers and blessings throughout the day were just as huge as any 200 or higher guest count wedding! All in all, a wedding day is a day where your closest friends and family come to honor the union of a special couple regardless of how big or small the number might be.

Everyone’s perception of safety during this time is different, so as planners, we want to make sure that the couples’ guests feel safe throughout the event. Our couples made sure their guests were protected by supplying beautiful masks and also individual hand sanitizers for them to take. Although there are minor adjustments that are added onto a socially distanced wedding (like masks, washing hands frequently, hand sanitizing), it does not take away from the beautiful moment of the bride and groom saying “I-do” to forever!

FROM THE CCL TEAM: WHAT WE'RE THANKFUL FOR!

CAT LEO

2020 certainly was not the way I imagined it to be. With everything that happened this year with the pandemic, racial unrest, and so much worldly matters that I am still digesting, I'd imagine that it would be considered the worst year for me. However, it's been an eye-opening year that has forced us into our homes to learn to slow down, rest, and embrace a slower and more uncomfortable pace of life. I am so used to constantly moving and grooving, so learning to not do so was a tough change.

I'm truly THANKFUL for this year. It has been a year of learning more about myself, constantly learning to let go of things that are toxic to my well-being, cherishing time with my family, and reminding myself that we only need enough to live a happy and fulfilled life.

I've cooked more, exercised more, read more, dreamed more, watched my daughter grow more, used my creativity for myself more, and grown both mentally and physically. I'll raise my glass to 2020, and will be hopeful that 2021 will be the year we use what we practiced in the year prior.

CARREN UPASANI

I am so thankful for my family and friends who have shown so much love and support through everything this year. This year brought a lot of challenging moments as being a new parent, getting a new job, adapting to new routines, grieving lost ones, and living the quarantine life. My daughter, Emilia, has been the one who has kept me together. It’s been so great to watch her learn, grow, and mature into her own personality. She is a consistent reminder that life is precious and to cherish all the moments we have together. I truly feel blessed with the life I have :)

ASHLEY SUN

What a year 2020 has been! I certainly did not expect any of this to say the least when I originally planned to have my wedding this year. Although plans and the world around me changed, the things that actually mattered did not. Throughout all the struggles that we all needed to endure in different ways, it brought a silver lining. I’m thankful for the time I got to spend intentionally doing the things that brought me joy. For me, I think it’s safe to say that I live a somewhat busy life and have many different interests that I might not have always had the time for. I’m thankful for the ability to spend a lot of time with my family and also my family-to-be. I have never lived in a time where the world seemed to literally standstill, so we definitely took advantage of the darkness and found very creative ways to entertain ourselves! I am thankful that I got to spend more time with my busy boy fiance and even learn to share a common interest in golf; at the end of the day, we get to say we’ve survived a pandemic together!

I’m thankful that I got the time to reflect on the things that are actually important to me and understand what it is to see the good and the bad of many different situations. Even though this is not what any of us imagined the “golden year” 2020 was SUPPOSED to be, it helped us all change our paces and learn what it is to truly appreciate life for what it is - the small joys. Also… I’m thankful and so happy that the Dodgers won the World Series! GO BLUE!!

GLORIA YI

2020 has been a year of crisis. However, this year has also given me the opportunity to step back and reflect on both new and old blessings in my life. Here are just a few of them:

1. Time: I had a generous amount of time to not only spend with my family but also time to focus on my own growth as an individual.

2. Health: I feel tremendously blessed that God has kept my family and the people I love in good health.

3. Job: Knowing that millions of people have and continue to lose their jobs due to the pandemic, I'm thankful to still be employed today so that I can support my family during this time of need.

4. Frontline & Essential Workers: These professionals risk their lives daily to make our lives easier. For that, I am grateful.

2020 wasn't great by any means but I certainly learned a lot from it and it was quite the learning experience. With that being said, 2021, I'm ready for you.

CHRISTINA LEE

2020 was quite the year for our family. But in the midst of the chaos, I am first and foremost thankful for my family and the health of our family. My baby boy turned 1 and is a healthy and growing big boy. Although my daughter was unable to go to preschool, I am thankful for the extra time we had to spend- doing crafts, lots of make-believe playing, and singing/dancing to Disney songs on repeat. I am especially thankful for my husband who has kept us grounded and has been working hard. Lastly, I am also thankful for my community of family/friends who kept me sane during those times I thought I was going to go crazy. I now more than ever appreciate the statement it takes a village to raise kids. I'm looking forward to more adventures this coming year!

CONNIE WONG

This past week, I served as a poll worker for the 2020 General Presidential Election. Seeing my community show up and proudly showcase their pride struck a graceful chord of gratitude through me. As much as it felt like 2020 has flown by, in a sense, it feels like it has all lead up to this, to November. This year, I never have been prouder to be an Asian-American woman surrounded by like-minded friends who value social impact as much as I do. I appreciate that my voice can be heard - whether it's on the streets when we are demanding justice; or if it's in the workplace, where I've found my "perfect fit" in a new job where I'll be joining a team that took a chance on me; or if it's when I'm asked for my restaurant and recipe recommendations from people I barely know online.

Surely, I am thankful for the wonderful roof over my head; being able to work-from-home safely; a partner who supports me through literally everything; a healthy, strong family that still doesn't know how to use Zoom 7 months later; and the best dog ever - but the best gift 2020 has given me is: knowledge and patience and how to use that power to show up for myself and for others. And what a great way to enter the holiday season: refreshed with faith renewed in what's to come in 2021.

CAROL LEE

2020 allowed my husband and I to spend more time together at home to prepare and welcome the new addition to our family this past September. It's definitely been physically and emotionally challenging given the circumstances with COVID-19, but I am thankful for a community of friends and family (especially my CCL gals) that have shown so much love and support from a distance. Thankful for their health and safety. Thankful for being able to bring new life into this world and raise them to be our future generation.

Thankful for all of the people out there hustling at the restaurants and food delivery services because I definitely called upon them. Thankful for the firefighters and police officers that have kept all of our homes safe from the fires. Thankful that this year brought on a huge opportunity for change because what's growth without change?

JESSICA TAHATA

This year has been a whirlwind of unknowns for many of us. Although I’m bummed about the many canceled events and missed gatherings, I’m also very grateful for the blessings that I’ve gotten. This season has given me ample opportunity to spend quality time with my pets, my family, and myself. I’m very thankful for my health and my ability to do the things that I enjoy with the people I love - like going on hikes, experimenting with new recipes, or building chicken coops!

JESSICA BAE

I was expecting 2020 to be a great year because it was the year I turned 30 and a year I planned on travellng a lot. Little did I know that we would still be in this pandemic to this day and all my extraordinary plans got cancelled. When Covid hit, I got furloughed from my job, but thankfully, I was offered a new job in a different industry - something I had been pursuing for the past 2 years. This new career transition came at the perfect time. During quarantine, time seemed to slow down a lot. It forced me and my family to spend more time at home with each other - mending relationships, eating dinner together every night, and watching movies and playing poker to entertain ourselves. Our dog, Ollie, had the time of his life during this quarantine because he got to spend all day everyday with us. Ollie experienced a lot of firsts this year - first birthday party with all his doggo friends, first summer cut, and first time at the beach! Overall, I am thankful for my family's good health and the time we spent together this year.

With not much going on because of the quarantine, I tried to find joy in all the little things. Because gyms were closed, I picked up running with my siblings. I never thought I'd enjoy running, but I was able to experience a runner's high for the first time! And even though we couldn't travel internationally, I got to travel locally to San Diego and went to the zoo for the first time since I was a kid. I also appreciated all of the intimate birthday celebrations at home and picnics with friends throughout this year. 2020 didn't go as I planned, but there is so much to be thankful for and still plenty of time to make more memories~

HEIDI HAN

2020 what a year. Despite the pandemic and ongoing political issues, I'm thankful for my overall health and safety throughout this time. I'm finishing up my last semester of graduate school and have been teaching online. Distance learning has officially taken place this school year which had its own challenges and limitations but thank God for technology!!! I'm so thankful that we had so many online modalities to continue our students' education and be creative in our learning. Although the students and I all miss being at school in person, students have been so cooperative and patient to make the best of virtual school.

I'm especially thankful for my family, friends, and loved ones around. Facetime dates and video chats have been a new norm to stay connected! I'm thankful for encouraging and positive souls who have shared their joy, food, socially distanced quality time, and prayer.

This is what quarantine has looked like for me- long hours teaching online, picnics, take out, covid dates, & lounging at home!

EMILY & CALVIN - THE WEDDING!

We can’t believe we got the honor to witness this wedding right before the Stay at Home Order hit California! Days before the wedding, we were unsure exactly what the day would look like because something so new was being introduced to the US - the beginning of a pandemic, but we are SO happy with how everything turned out and were blessed to be a part of it! Emily and Calvin’s wedding was overflowing with colors that gave such energy every inch of their event! The couple enjoyed the day without a worry in their mind because they were fully focused on the present! This is something that we should definitely live by in the midst of such uncertain times. We are looking forward to jumping back on the horse and celebrating a couple more exciting unions next month!!

ELISA & TOM - THE WEDDING!

Who loves a good classic wedding?! We do! When I tell you that everything aligned perfectly on the night of Elisa and Tom’s wedding, it is no exaggeration! We had the honor of planning this precious couple’s wedding to kick off 2020! The couple wanted to bring the beach to the Skirball Cultural Center - so that’s exactly what we did! Every linen was colored blue and we also added vinyl to their signature bar that outlined the waves of the ocean! This plant-loving couple asked that we could symbolize that in some way, so we knew we had to go all out and build out a custom greenhouse escort installation for them! With everything that is going on in the world, it is really moments like these that we look back on and really treasure.

ELLIOT'S FIRST BIRTHDAY!

We love celebrating milestones for families and their babes! Elliot’s First Birthday theme came from the idea of doing an Asian night market! This first birthday took place at 18 Folds in Anaheim which perfectly complimented the theme. Scratch the traditional gift bags - Elliot’s guests each received cute personalized nap sacks that included an arrangement of different gifts for the guests to enjoy! We love the attention to detail that was incorporated in this cute little event for such a special boy!

RACHEL & PETER - THE WEDDING!

This is a wedding very dear to our hearts! It wasn’t just because the wedding took place in beautiful Italy, but it is because we had the best couple we couldn’t have been happier to celebrate! Planning a destination wedding comes with a lot of necessary communication and getting to know and trust one another. We are so thankful that Rachel and Peter trusted us enough to travel their wedding all the way to Siena! When we think of Italy, a venue like Villa Cetinale captures perfectly the true essence of how amazing and beautiful this country is! The couple imagined their Italian wedding to be outdoors with a soft and romantic garden feel. The colors that were placed throughout were white, creams, blush, and pale yellow - the yellows were accented on their paper goods by adorable lemons! The wedding came together like a dream, looking back on it, there wouldn’t be a thing we would change!

NIKKI & VICTORIA - THE WEDDING!

Our beautiful brides celebrated their amazing day at Millwick in DTLA! We love how this day came alive with the simple addition of color! The couple definitely wanted to incorporate a lot of greens with the occasional pops of red/magenta to symbolize their culture. Nikki and Victoria’s wedding had just the right amount of classy and modern to tie everything together. We love how our brides wanted to emphasize a relaxed event with their guests! There was definitely not a dry eye in the room whne it came time for the first dance! We love LOVE!

KATE & JEFF - THE WEDDING!

Our pizza-loving couple brought so many fun and bright elements into their wedding! This sweet couple shared many date nights making pizza at home and sipping on amazing wine after their memorable trip to the Amalfi Coast, so they knew they had to incorporate that into their wedding somehow! We custom-built an escort install with individual mini pizza cookies for each guest to enjoy! The color scheme that they went with was dusty pink, mauve, taupe, nudes, and pops of ruby red! When we met with the couple, they expressed that they wanted their wedding to be heartfelt, thoughtful, and intimate – which was exactly what it turned out to be! Each guest that night definitely could not hold back smiles when looking at this sweet couple!

MICHELLE & BRIAN - THE WEDDING!

Michelle and Brian’s wedding was nothing short of perfect! What more could you ask for when you have the most amazing group of people, great food, and an amazing view?! Guests were deeply impressed as they entered Michelle and Brian’s ceremony area and saw the backdrop which was the real life California Coast. The couple wanted to have their love for Japan in their wedding, so we created a custom installation for their guests to imagine that they are in Japan. This installation displayed individual macarons for each guest that also showed them which table they would be sitting at. This theme also carried through the end of the night where guests were served ready to eat Mochi donuts at the same exact location. We love creating weddings that symbolize exactly who our couples are so that everyone can get a sense of the personal touch!

THALIA & ANDREW - THE WEDDING!

Everybody knows that we love color! Thalia and Andrew’s wedding included the perfect variety of purple hues, and we are thinking back to how amazing this day was! Thalia and Andrew were such a joy to work with, you could definitely feel their love whenever you were around them! It was very important to the couple to personalize their wedding, so we made sure that their guests knew about their dating history - including the fact that they were able to brave through a long distance relationship! We love the small details throughout their wedding that created such a divine big picture!

HELENA & CLIFF - THE WEDDING!

We love it when our couple's personalities shine through their weddings! This was true for our couple, Helena and Cliff when they came to us saying that they knew they wanted a wedding that involved DISNEY! Cliff got down on one knee at Disneyland with a collector’s pin of Mickey proposing to Minnie! How sweet is that?! For the wedding colors, the couple went for pale blush to warm pink tones and pale blue to navy that included pops of gold. They wanted a warm, intimate wedding with wood elements - which were added on their guest tables and also their custom ceremony arch and escort installation! Check out these photos as you will fall love just like we did!

JACKIE & JASON - THE WEDDING!

Jackie and Jason’s beautiful garden romantic wedding took place at none other than Saddlerock Ranch! The couple wanted to incorporate very natural tones into their big day! Eucalyptus and roses added everything they ever dreamed of to complete this look! The couples’ two adorable fur babies made themselves the stars of the day as they played the part of the “ring pups”! One of our favorite parts of the wedding was witnessing the money dance - where the couple allows their guests to come and dance with them. JOCELYN & ORION - THE WEDDING!

Jocelyn and Orion knew right off the bat that they wanted to throw a huge celebration at the newly renovated Rolling Hills Country Club. The couple wanted a simple and elegant wedding that also incorporated their cultural backgrounds. The color palette that was used was white, champagne, nude and pops of natural greenery, and black accents. This couple definitely gave their guests such an enjoyable time by spoiling them with a plethora of food! During cocktail hour, there was oyster shucking station, dim sum carts, baby suckling pig station, and baos. How much better can it get?! Well, I’ll tell you! After the reception, the guests were escorted outside to a live band blasting the perfect party music, a hot churro station, an ice cream station, and the mecca of all burgers, the In-n-out Truck! The guests and the couple thoroughly enjoyed everything that was happening that amazing night!

JANET'S BABY SHOWER!

Baby Tyson is on the way! Tyson’s mama, Janet, wanted to throw him a warm welcome into this world! By incorporating dessert and boho vibes, the Hudson Loft space was truly transformed and tailored to fit exactly the type of celebration Tyson’s parents wanted to throw. Their guests were treated with the most amazing variety of foods - hand rolls, tacos, Amaze bowls, Craft cocktails - need I say more? JEAN & TYLER - THE WEDDING!

Jean and Tyler’s wedding was such a fun wedding to be a part of! Their dark and moody color scheme really framed the essence of fall for their October wedding! This couple wanted to incorporate hints of rustic elements for their outdoor reception, which was done by the help of their wooden reception tables. The couple is a huge Super Mario Fan, so we just had to revolve their escort installation! The slogan “Play together, stay together” totally embodied their fun and playful relationship together! Love is in the air! We had so much fun doing our first ever wedding with the newly renovated Rolling Hills Country Club! Jane and Addison were the best couple to work with, as they knew exactly what they wanted - clean and simple! Clean and Simple can be spruced up in so many different ways! In this bride’s case, everything was in the florals! Jane dreamed of a lily of the valley bouquet as that is what is loved by royalty. The couple also made boba from their favorite spot, Ten Ren Tea Time a must for them and all their guests! AUDREY'S FIRST BIRTHDAY!

Audrey’s adorable First Birthday celebration was inspired by the visions to create her very own farmer’s market! This unique event actually took place at the restaurant Fig & Olive in DTLA, where the space was transformed to fit this bespoke theme. During the design meeting for this event, the words to express what was desired by the parents were clean, organic, vibrant, and airy. This was made possible by painting the farmers stand in white to create a very clean platform and by having pops of color with the fruits that were added in. We love creating custom installs for not only weddings but every possible event under the sun!

Jacky and Aaron’s beautiful San Juan Capistrano wedding went off without a hitch! The sweetest couple that we had the honor to work with was so excited from beginning to finish to say “I-DO” in front of their closest family and friends. The couple wanted a very natural and classic wedding which look amazing and was perfectly accompanied by the November gloom. Their wedding was photographed flawlessly by our friends at Kapsule Co! We love the color palette of white, tan/beige, and natural greenery, with gold accents that created a very classy feel. ABIGAIL'S FIRST BIRTHDAY!

We don’t only do weddings! In fact, we LOVE when we get the opportunity to see a family grow over the years through events! We are so excited to share Abigail’s first birthday as it was such a fun and colorful twist on the traditional baby’s first birthday! This event featured colors from all over the rainbow, with mixtures of pastel.
